Good compilation, but.... - This is a good compliation of Watley s hits from the late 1980s and early 1990s, but does skimp on some popular songs, such as Still a Thrill and I Want You. Also, it has the radio edit versions of the songs that are best known by her fans. A great buy for those being introduced to Watley for the first time.
All the Jody Watley you ll ever need. - This is a nice collection of memorable dance-pop from Jody Watley, who had her fifteen minutes back in the mid to late 80 s as a member of Shalamar, followed by a short run of singles that scampered up the charts. If you are at all familiar with the 80 s, you ll know most of these songs, and the remastering sounds just fine here.Lookin For A New Love, Don t You Want Me and Some Kind of Lover are all stellar examples of that post-Madonna/Janet Jackson sound that gave us people like Karyn White, Paula Abdul, Pebbles and Miss Watley. Most of All is an unjustly ignored gem, as sunny today as it was twenty years ago. Supreme pop.Her second album (the first songs are all from her debut) didn t have the killer tunes, but Real Love , Friends and Everything made enough of an impact that you ll recognize them right away, even of you haven t heard the songs in two decades. The rest of the collection falls flat...like many of the other minor chanteuses of the time, they couldn t grow up well, and the remaining songs are kinda boring. If you want some smoky, jazzy melodies, you are gonna put on Anita Baker, not Jody Watley.Nevertheless, if you are interested in this, it s because you have fond memories of her initial success, and in that respect, this is a worthy purchase...
i m looking for a new hit - jody watly s 20th cenury masters has the hits you love. i lik this album a lot. looking for anew love, don t you want me, some kind of lover, real love, friends(with eric b.and rakim.),everything,i m the one you need and off the hook are some of my favorite songs. thank you jody, and good luck. ed wilson
You Were My Everything - Jody Watley had a vibe about her that worked, and this CD gives you most of her great songs. My personal favorite is Everything, which had girls with big hair and even bigger shoulder pads singing it in front of mirrors in 1989. I love this song because it reminds me of first-loves that got away. Even though Jody s best work was from the 70 s, 80 s and early 90 s, she will always be my everything!
Excellent Collection - 20th Century Masters collections are infamous for always leaving out at least one or two vital songs from an artist, but Jody watley s collection is actually pretty complete. The only other one i can think of is Diana Ross s. All of Ms Watley s top 10 hits are here which are Looking For A New Love, Real Love, Everything Some Kind of Lover, Don t You Want Me, and Friends. Plus, it includes Most of All which i think is her best song but it never cracked the top 40. The only gripe is that the charting single Still A Thrill from her debut is not here, but its forgivable. If you want A Jody album with all of her biggest hits, this is your best bet. Her 1996 Greatest Hits is for some reason out of print. It s superior, but if you can t find it, this will do.
