The Blueprint - Jody Watley s first release is representative of style, class, sophistication and funk. She took female r and b music and infused it with pop, making it easily accesible for white people to groove to. She worked with hot writers and producers like Andre Cymone to give her a little bit of that Prince sound, and added her feminine sultry and soft voice to make Jody a commodity in the pop and dance music scene of the 80 s. Jody watley is really in a class of her own, that s what makes her so unique and not just another cast off of the music world. Her first 2 albums garnished many hits and fantastic music videos where Jody showed off her beauty and style. She was a glamazon with a voice, now who can compare to that? As for the music on this album, this cd is more of a blueprint for what was to come later with the release of several dance mixes. Don t U Want Me, Some Kind of Lover and Most of All were mixed later and enhanced, and gave the songs more energy. They took the originals and perfected them, it s amazing what more synthizizers and dubbed vocals can do to a song. One of my favourites off this album is Still A Thrill. I love the lyrics and jody s voice, it sounds like Prince wrote it (the video is cool too). My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult even sampled it in the 90 s for one of their dance hits. The 49 s had a huge club hit Don t You Want Me which heavily samples Jody s vocals in Don t U Want Me. The group Seduction also heavily sampled Jody s voice in Don t u Want Me their dance remix of It Takes Two, so Jody was the queen of samples. I also like some of the less trendy songs like Do It 2 The Beat and Love Injection which you can t find on the greatest hits. The only song I dislike is her duet with George Michael on Learn To Say No. It s like they made the song to play at some high school rally to just say no to drugs, good message but bad song. Every now and then it s refreshing to escape some of the crappy music of today, it s nice to pop in Jody Wately and groove to romantic lyrics about love and self empowerment. Jody s music lives on and she s still a thrill to listen to.
Why Can t I Walk Down The Street Free Of Suggestion? - The cover of this album is pretty boring. I have to say that if I had designed the artwork, I would definitely have added more color. Maybe red.Oh, wait! The title of the album is in red! Maybe the next time they issue this one, they could add some green.Now, the song title, Love Injection, is seriously inappropriate. I would really appreciate if Ms. Watley would refrain from using such sexually suggestive language on further releases.Judging by my own secret criterion, this album is probably mediocre at best. Leave it to Shalamar to give us a sub-par solo effort.
One fun album - A few months back I heard Jody Watley s Looking For A New Love on one of VH1 s countdown shows. The song got stuck in my head and months later I brought this album off the bargain rack, not expecting much outside this one song. Watley puts in a good performance. However, this is marked by her adequate vocals, which get the job done. The production is done pretty well for the time period. This combined with the former means that the album becomes annoying by the time one reaches the second half.Favorite cuts off this album are Looking for a New Love, Some Kind of Lover, and Don t You Want Me. There are also pretty lame cuts such as Love Injection and For the Girls. Overall, Jody Watley s debut is a fun album that is good, but not great. I recommend this album to someone who just wants to have fun and relax. To paraphrase an interview I saw on VH1 in 2002: Don t take this album seriously, take it for what it is - fun, fun, and more fun!

Classic Jody - Very good Cd. It contains the original version for Don t you want me and two versions for New Love. The extended version it s nice too. Very well mixed, good sound.
