This *must* have been better in person - I adore Jody Watley. She is beautiful, stylish and a true survivor. While seeing her perform these arrangements in person would definitely be a thrill, the experience simply does not come across on this dreary, dreadful CD.The unforgettable dance tracks are reinterpreted as a series of soundalike mid-tempo numbers performed with all the energy of Terry Schiavo -- and I mean *after* the removal of the feeding tube. The ballads reveal anew Ms. Watley s painfully limited vocal range. And the Carpenters medley? Every concert set needs a number that sends fans back to the concession stands ... a CD does not.If not for my enduring affinity for the wonderful Watley, this would have received only one star.
Jody Watley s Still on top of Her Game - Jody Watley is one of the best and will always be. You will not be dissapointed with this collection. Highly Recommended for the JW fans as well as potentially new ones. Join the experience.
Awesome Live CD - This CD is awesome! Rather than go the usual route, Miss Jody did what Miss Jody does best, she stirs it up! These are new visions of classic Jody Watley tunes with a few surprises thrown in the mix. Lots of sweet jazz vibes and the usual smooth vocal from Miss JW. The new visions of of Don t You Want Me, Still A Thrill, and Real Love are amazing. And you are reminded of what a great song writer she really is going back and listening to Everything. I still haven t completely warmed up to the new take on Friends, but I give her props for keepin it fresh and trying to step outside the box when so many people would have never taken a chance on trying to do something different. Finally, another review said the sound quality was bad on the CD. Not sure what that person is hearing, or not hearing, but I completely disagree. It s a live recording and sounds pefectly fine to me. Best way to describe it, it has a vibe like it was recorded at a jazz club or something like that. Very intimate feel.
Everything is worth the price alone. - I went to see Jody Watley for her Makeover appearance concert in New York, as a guest of a friend, a big time Jody Watley fan for years. I know the songs, I grew up listening to her and being impressed by the videos. I guess, I was a casual fan. I lost touch, and reconnected and got intrigued after hearing her complete overhaul of one of my favorite Madonna songs, Borderline . I love The Makeover.Seeing her in concert, was unexpectedly emotional. I thought it was just going to be some diva night. Instead there was sense of community type of feeling that night. In an odd way, it was almost like being in church, with Ms. Watley as the pastor. She made us all feel connected to her and to each other. I have never been to concert like it. EVER. White, black, hispanic, gay, straight, young, and slightly older folks. After we d danced, sang and cried with her (Everything), I came away forever changed. She possessed something unexpected and missing in music today - an honesty in her music and performance.I ordered the CD, after I heard about it, to try and revisit what I felt that night. I have other live recordings, Beyonce, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and I can tell you that this CD is a bargain, and the rest pale from the quality, songs, arrangements, and my own memories of being there.You get some of Ms. Watley s greatest hits like Looking For a New Love , (with a new touch that grows up the 80 s memories), Real Love (I LOVE THE ENERGY SHE PUT OUT!!), Friends, Don t You Want Me, which is better than ever. She has made the songs age as beautifully as she has, if that s possible. Her live reading of Everything is worth the price alone. I couldn t get over it that night and I can t beleive I am able to listen over and over. If you weren t at the show, this record makes you feel you should have been there. Her covers of Borderline and the Carpenters tribute (we sang our hearts out with her). She might have taken a page from Luther Vandross, when he transformed old songs into new love anthems for a new generation. Jody Watley has done the same. Hits all around. Superhits is not pedestrian or predictable, this is a big plus. If you are limited in your music scope and taste, this may not be for you.But this is a must have for any real music lover, fan, or whatever. Anyone who writes different, has no taste. Jody Watley has heart and soul. I can t wait to see her again and to hear what she does next.
A SUPERB LIVE ALBUM!!! - I ve been buying these Super Hit series because you get alot of great music for a really good price. But the great thing about JODY WATLEY s Super Hits is that it s LIVE (unlike the others). All I can say is WOW! I wish I would have been at this concert!! It s got a totally soulful vibe and you can tell the people are having a great time. The songs are familiar and timeless and the sound is impeccable. Her voice is stunning on the disc. Borderline is simply sensational- not to mention Miss Watley s own super hits- which seem to take on a whole new shine here. Don t know what the other (negative) reviewer was listening to, but it could not have been this album. Seriously. I d listen to this woman sing anything...anytime! EXCELLENT AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
